The Pleasantville boys’ and girls’ basketball teams lost a pair of games to Martensdale-St. Marys inside the Pleasantville high school gym on Friday. The girls would fall 48-34 and the boys would lose a close one 70-66 in overtime. The Trojan girls trailed in the entire game behind a freshmen lead Blue Devil squad but would make the game close in the 4th quarter cutting the lead to ten with just over six minutes to go. The Trojans would only score two points the rest of the way as the Blue Devils cruised to an easy victory. The Trojans were led by Kelsee Van Haalen who scored a team high 15 points but was out dueled by the freshmen Blue Devils as freshmen Jensen Archibald and Morgan Dunn would both score in double figures to lead the Blue Devils. Pleasantville girls’ Head Coach Aaron Fichter was proud of the effort from Van Haalen but wants his other girls to step up and buy into what they can do. The boys’ would fall in a more contested game as Martensdale-St. Marys would take down the Trojans in overtime. The Trojans led by senior Brady Elder’s 35 points would take the game into overtime tied at 58 before the Blue Devils would take control and cruise to a win inside the Pleasantville high school gym. The Trojans who relied on Elder for most of their go to points could not find another scorer when they needed it most and Head Coach Joel Allman knows that’s something that needs to change. The Trojans will next hit the road and travel to Truro Iowa next Tuesday for a boy girl doubleheader with the Road Runners of Interstate 35.
