We continue the top ten countdown for Knoxville, Twin Cedars, and Melcher-Dallas for the high school year at number five. The Knoxville Baseball program was under new coaching. Matt Miller, who in 2014 took Twin Cedars to the class 1A state title was given to keys to one of the premier baseball programs in Iowa as he was tabbed head coach in Knoxville. Miller’s first season did not get off to the kind of start he would have wanted losing the first two games of the season this summer to Oskaloosa. However, the Panthers reeled off ten straight victories outscoring their opponents in the stretch 97-23. Miller told KNIA/KRLS Sports after that season opening double header, he noticed his players were a bit tight and so he allowed them to be themselves. After that Miller realized the players being loose was better than having them laser focused. Knoxville went on to win the outright South Central Conference championship and finish 28-8 on the season.
