Pella Regional Health Center is inviting parents and child care providers to a class about sign language for babies.

Speech Therapist Janna Hansen-Nolin tells KNIA/KRLS News the course on Tuesday, September 19th at 7 p.m. aims to help parents better communicate with young children.

The course includes a packet and details of information for commonly used signs. She says when parents communicate using their hands, kids will pick up cues from parents or caregivers that use sign language around commonly used phrases.

“You can expect to learn a couple dozen basic signs that are easily incorporated into daily routines,” she says. “Just starter signs that we use as a lout parents and speech therapists that we expect other people would be able to utilize as well.”
