The Pella Opera House is hosting An Evening with Mark Twain this weekend.

Actor Michael Mauldin will bring the classic author to the stage, and has been doing so for four decades. He tells KNIA/KRLS News he enjoys portraying Twain because of how relevant his writing remains in modern society.

“There’s hardly anything that happens in the news, or in politics, or in religion, or war, or whatever that happens that he doesn’t have a commentary about,” he says. “And I think like most authors who last as he has lasted–he writes about the human condition, he writes about us.”

Mauldin says he aims to bring an entertaining look into the life of Twain by recreating an actual lecture he gave in 1905. Tickets for An Evening with Mark Twain can be purchased online at pellaoperahouse.org or at the Pella Opera House box office at 611 Franklin Street. The show is this Saturday at 7 p.m.
