Pella and Pella Christian football fans are encouraged to help fill the Pella Community Food Shelf during a special tailgate food drive tonight.
Pella Community Food Shelf Director Melissa Zula tells KNIA/KRLS August is typically the group’s busiest month — and this year, many of their shelves were wiped out of needed supplies.
Zula says fans of the Little Dutch and Eagles are asked to bring nonperishable food, toiletries, or other supplies to the Pella Motors Pace Trucks parked in front of the ticket gates at both home football games.
“Our shelves did get quite empty across the month of August, and it’s going to take a lot of us working together to fill those back up,” she says.
Pella High School has also been holding a class competition to raise the most food items during homecoming week.
