The VA Central Iowa Health Care System and the City of Knoxville held a town hall meeting Thursday to discuss the future of the historic VA Campus.
VA Leadership representatives as well as representatives from General Services Administration (GSA) provided information to approximately 120 Knoxville residents who attended the meeting. According to GSA Branch Chief Jennifer Mollenshott, her branch is currently waiting on a report of excess from the VA, which she expects before the end of the year. She says following her branch receiving the VA report the required process of disposing of the property will begin. After a property value assessment, options discussed included transfer to another government agency, using the campus as a homeless shelter, a private sale, an auction, and sale of the property to the city. Mollenshott tells KNIA/KRLS News the process takes about a year. Residents can contact Mollenshott directly with any questions they might have regarding the property.
