The property that was home to one of the former Casey’s General Store locations in Pella has been sold.
At an auction, Bank Iowa purchased 640 Washington Street for $210,000. CEO of Bank Iowa Jim Plagge tells KNIA/KRLS News they are expanding banking services to Pella.
Plagge says they intend to demolish the current structure, and the organization is coming up with design documents to submit to the city of Pella for a new building.
“We have acquired what was the old Casey’s lot, and perhaps some additional properties, that will allow us to build a full-service facility, including drive up lanes on that location right off of the square,” he says. “We’re excited to have a full service office in town, and even though we’ll be able to soon offer full banking services in the temporary office, it’ll be a lot easier to do that once we are in a full service, permanent office.”
Bank Iowa is based in West Des Moines and recently opened a loan branch on Franklin Street in Pella.
“We can basically originate any sorts of loans out there: ag, commercial, mortgage, anything, and we are very close to having full branch status even in that small location, so, soon we will be able to open accounts, take deposits, do the normal transactions in any bank.”
There is no timeline for completion, but Plagge says they intend to start working as soon as possible, with potential construction possible in early 2018.
The building on the lot at 640 Washington was home to one of three Casey’s stores closed when the new location on Main Street opened in May 2017. According to the Marion County Assessor’s Office database, the land and building was most recently listed at $317,820 of total assessed value.
