The three-time defending champions will have their hands full when they start the Class 3A football playoffs against the same school they defeated in last year’s championship game.

Webster City and Coach Bob Howard’s famous single wing, spin-back offense come to Pella High School for a first-of-its-kind state title rematch to open postseason action.

Pella beat the Lynx 28-18 in the first time the schools’ ever played one another at the UNI Dome last November. Head Coach Jay McKinstrey says Webster City’s unique offense will provide many matchup problems for the Little Dutch defense that they will have to overcome.

“I think that’s really important — make them go 80 yards, and if they can do it, well, they’ve done a good job,” he says. “Hopefully they will make a mistake along the way and we can make a play on the way to stop them. We’ve got to play first down really well.”

Webster City has the 2nd best rushing attack in Class 3A at 330 yards per game and 37 touchdowns.

Coverage of the state championship rematch between the Dutch and Lynx begins at 6:30 on AM 1320, FM 95.3 KNIA, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Andrew Schneider and Randy Sikkema will call the action.
