The story is starting to sound familiar. The fifth seeded Central College men’s basketball team advanced to the Iowa Conference Championship after defeating top-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan 85-63 last night.
Central won last year’s conference title after being the number five seed and winning three straight games on the road to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Pete Walker led Central with 23 points and six rebounds, Kyle Smith added 21 points including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and Colby Taylor had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Central won the rebound battle 41-36 and shot 52.5 percent from the floor while suffocating the Prairie Wolves into shooting 34.8. The Prairie Wolves were held to just 63 total points, the lowest point total in the three years under Coach Dale Wellman.
Thursday’s win means the Dutch will host sixth-seeded Wartburg College tomorrow at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. tip.
