A Pleasantville woman has been arrested for theft in the first degree, a class C Felony.
Court documents show that 76-year-old Dorothy Phipps was arrested Thursday. The arrest stems from an incident which took place on September 18th, 2016 in which Phipps is alleged to have written a check for $16,000 to Valdez Roofing for a completed roofing job, which didn’t clear. Upon investigation of Phipps’ bank records, the account from which the check was written never had more that $159.30 from the period of September 17th, 2016 to October 18th, 2016. Phipps is a former Pleasantville City Clerk. City Administrator and Police Chief Joe Mrstik tells KNIA/KRLS that there is no evidence of illegal use of city funds by Phipps. Phipps faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
