Seven total Severe Thunderstorm Warnings went into effect in Marion County Saturday evening into early Sunday morning.

At 5:37 p.m. the National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Lucas County, Northern Marion County, Northeastern Clarke County, and Southeastern Warren County. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was live shortly after the warning and kept Marion County listeners informed while teaming up with WeatherEye meteorologists to keep track of the storm as it passed through the listening area. The bulk of the storm moved north and passed by Knoxville, with only periods of heavy rainfall reported in the city.

At 7:07 p.m. the National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Marion County and Southern Warren County. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team hit the airwaves and again teamed up with a WeatherEye meteorologist to keep track of the storm as it passed through the listening area.

During the Severe Weather Action Team coverage of the storm at 7:46 p.m. a third Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Northern Lucas County, Southern Marion County and Southeastern Warren County.

A fourth warning was issued by the National Weather Service at 10:23 for the northern half of the county, with the KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team activated once again. The storm produced pea sized hail and torrential downpours in Knoxville, Harvey, and many areas of Marion County. Golf-ball sized hail was reported by one of our trained weather spotter near New Sharon.

At midnight, a sixth warning was prompted near Lake Red Rock and the Pella area. Quarter-sized hail was reported at 12:05 approximately three miles southwest of Pella.

Between the multiple storms, pea sized hail was reported six miles south of Knoxville, penny-sized hail was spotted east of Knoxville, nickel-sized near Melcher-Dallas, and various sizes near Prairie City.

The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team will go on the air live during any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning for any portion of Marion County, and we have backup generators that automatically come on if we lose power ensure our coverage stays on if the power goes out.
