Pella Christian Grade School is planning to begin construction on the expansion of their facility later this spring.
Head of Schools David Te Grotenhuis tells KNIA/KRLS News they are very close to hitting the fundraising total needed to begin work on the third phase of the building project.
“We’ve fundraised $9.2 million for our $13.55 million dollar campaign, and we need to be at $9.5 million to break ground, so we have that $300,000 remaining,” he says.
The next stage is what Te Grotenhuis says is the bulk of the expansion project. Pella Christian’s building project committee selected Lang Construction from eight other contractors as part of the process.
“It includes 47,000 square feet of additional space, 15 classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a new kitchen space, and then some updates to the interior of the school,” he says.
Planning and work on the overall project has been ongoing for over two years. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled on Monday, May 1st at 8:40 a.m. at Pella Christian Grade School. The goal is to have staff and students in the new space by the end of next academic year in May 2018.
