The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday.
The meeting began with the council holding a public hearing to discuss the potential rezoning amendment for three properties including 401, 409 and 413 East Main Street in Knoxville. Knoxville residents in attendance again voiced their concerns with the potential development of a four story, 27 unit apartment complex that would potentially be built on the lots.
Following the public hearing and the concerns heard by the council, council member Megan Suhr told concerned citizens she hopes the council heard the the people’s concerns, and she thinks the council is doing what they can with the latitude they have. The council then voted to approve the rezoning of the properties which included a revision clause of six months to begin the project with a year and a half to finish the project. The council also waived second and third considerations for the rezoning amendment.
Following the rezoning approval, Mayor Brian Hatch read three different proclamations for Public Works Week, Police Week as well as Emergency Medical Services Week. The council then approved a street closure request for the Knoxville Public Library Capital Campaign Kick-Off event on June 2nd and Summer Reading Program Outdoor Day on July 19th.
