National Police Week began on Monday with National Police Officers Memorial Day.

Since 1962 police officers across the country have been honored and remembered for their service to their communities during National Police Week. Lt. Aaron Fuller with the Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News he knows that even during times of unappreciation police officers across the country do their best to allow us all to live in safety. Lt. Fuller says, the world is a safer place today than it was a long time ago. He says, just because there are people who don’t appreciate police officers doesn’t mean other people don’t. Lt. Fuller adds, people are sleeping safely in their beds because police officers are out there dealing with the negative things in the world. The annual week of appreciation for the men and women in blue will run through Sunday, May 21st.
