Running and throwing at the Wartburg College Qualifier Friday and Saturday, the Central College men’s and women’s track and field teams had varying degrees of success improving their times and distances.

A nine-second improvement helped the men’s distance medley relay finish sixth in 10:04.40. The Dutch finished sixth as the three of the top four qualifying times in the country finished ahead of them. Jon Specht, Mitchell Yaw, Kyle Pape and Mark Fairley ran the program’s fastest time of the season.

Only two Dutch women went to the Wartburg qualifier and both returned to Pella with significant status on the school’s record boards. Having run a career-best mile time last weekend at the Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Evie Kammeyer dropped another nine seconds off to run the second-fastest race in school history (5:09.34). She finished fifth Saturday.

Weight thrower Kennedy Morris became just the fifth Central woman to surpass a 50-foot toss by finishing fifth in 50-4.5

The official qualifying list for the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be released this morning. The meet is scheduled for March 9-10 in Birmingham, Alabama.
