A drug arrest in early April led to another arrest for possession of methamphetamine in Knoxville earlier this week.
On April 7th, Knoxville Police performed a traffic stop on Andrew Trey Murphy for failure to illuminate the registration plate. During the stop, the officer observed three clear baggies and a hypodermic needle that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Murphy was charged with a controlled substance violation, a class B felony, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony. Further investigation into a cell phone owned by Murphy led to the arrest of Dawn Simmons, after text messages showed that Simmons conspired with Murphy to buy an ounce of methamphetamine to be sold for profit, and that both contributed money to the sale. Simmons was charged with a controlled substance violation, a class B felony.
