Our class 1A track and field squads will head to Central Decatur tonight to see how many runners and throwers can qualify for state next week. For the Twin Cedars boys, Nick Haselhuhn is ranked first in the 200 and is third in the 400. Coach Aaron Allspach tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, Haselhuhn hopes to qualify in two events and getting some guys back from injury would also help things out. For Melcher-Dallas, it could be rivals vying for the 400, as Ethan Harrington is second just in front of Twin Cedar’s Haselhuhn. On the girls side, Co-Coach Amy Stuart tells KNIA/KRLS Sports a few field and some distance events are in line to qualify. Stuart adds it is amazing to think that just two years ago, the Saints did not have a girls track and field squad and now they could get three-to-four events at the Blue Oval.
