The Pella City Council will consider the next step in developing a telecommunications utility in the community.
At their regular meeting Tuesday, the council will review a resolution to approve a consulting services agreement with Farr Technologies of Sioux Falls to create a short-term plan and long-term strategy for extending telecommunications services to the citizens of Pella.
According to city staff, the plan will assess current service levels, fiber optic infrastructure, and short-term service capacity, as well as analyze and recommend an operating model. Advanced metering infrastructure for electric and water services will also be considered in the plan.
Over 92% of voters approved the utility in a special ballot measure May 1st. The resolution, if approved Tuesday, would contract Farr Technologies to develop a telecommunications utility plan, which could be completed by the end of September and move to the city council for consideration in October.
