A Norwalk man was charged with burglary in the first degree after breaking into a Knoxville woman’s home on Friday.

According to court records, the Knoxville Police Department responded to a 911 call from a female victim stating that 26-year-old Tanner Michael Cole had entered her residence without her knowledge and hid in her basement while sending her phone messages. After discovering his location and requesting Cole leave the premises, he refused and then held the victim down and took her phone when she attempted to call 911, causing injuries to her leg, arm, and lower lip.

The victim eventually got her phone back and dialed emergency services. Cole also took a television cord from the victim’s apartment, which was later found in his vehicle. Cole is charged with Burglary in the 1st degree, a class B felony, domestic abuse assault second offense, obstructing emergency communication, false imprisonment, and theft in the fifth degree. Cole was taken to the Marion County Jail on a $28,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday.
