The Knoxville Community School District has re-organized their special education department at West Elementary.
West Elementary will have three dedicated special education teachers to serve special needs students, one will serve students with more severe needs, another will serve students with behavior goals, and another will serve students with basic academics goals.
The special education teachers will be responsible for the paperwork and requirements, and the preschool teachers will be responsible for the preschool requirements, which previously had the preschool teachers responsible for both.
Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News this will help both the students in preschool and the special needs students by being able to provide for each of them in a much more focused setting and makes the teachers responsibilities a little clearer moving forward while still providing additional programs and benefits.
