The Marion County Fair Queen competition will take place this evening at First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
The three candidates, Megan Moore, Kaley Iddings, and Shaelyn Vanderhart, are all graduates of Knoxville High School. Fair Queen Coordinator Deanna Wahlert tells KNIA/KRLS News she helps recruit the contestant but she looks for impartial judges that don’t know anything about the contestants. All the judges receive is the original application from the contestants, and they are free to ask their own questions after that. After the Fair Queen is crowned, she will represent Marion County not only at the county fair and parade, but also in the fair queen competition at the Iowa State Fair in August. The Marion County Fair Queen Competition is free and open to the public, and will begin at 7pm.
