A group dedicated to keeping Iowa beautiful called the Green Runners has spread into Knoxville.
The Green Runners began in Des Moines in 2012, and meet at designated locations several times throughout the summer months and set out for a run with garbage bags and gloves to pick up trash. Tara Gordon brought the idea to Knoxville, and says it’s a great way to get exercise and contribute to the area, especially after a big event like the recent 4th of July celebration on the square or the upcoming Knoxville Nationals, because you can either complain about the area you live in or you can get out and do something about it. Gordon also said that you don’t have to be a runner to join in, and each clean-up event takes about 45 minutes.
