The 2018 Knoxville Sidewalk Project has begun, covering the Northeast and Northwest sections of Knoxville.
Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News this will be the last year of the sidewalk project as Knoxville city code states that maintaining and repairing sidewalks in front of a residence or business property is the responsibility of the owners. This multi-year sidewalk improvement program was the result of the city passing a local option sales tax, and the city agreed to do a one-time pass through of the city sidewalks, but from now on the responsibility falls on the property owners. Sidewalks that will be repaired or replaced will be marked by the city.
