The Knoxville School Board met in regular session Monday.
Representative for the KEA Knoxville High School math teacher Matt Heston rejected the board’s counter proposal to extend the teacher contract past the 2018-19 school year. The counter offer made by the board was the June 25th meeting where the board offered a one year contract extension taking out several provisions in the current contract, including items on insurance plans and transfer procedures, as the board does not want to get locked into certain insurance plans in such a volatile market. The teacher contract runs through the 2018-19 school year.
The board was also made aware of the fact that the number of eligible students to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision was lower than previously thought, and the district is not participating in the free lunch grant.
The board also turned down the contract extension with Triple R Driving School to provide drivers ed, and opened the position up for bidding, and appointed Craig Mobley as board secretary and treasurer among other items.
