The Pella Food Shelf is prepared for and welcoming new clients impacted by the tornado at Vermeer Corporation.
Executive Director Melissa Zula tells KNIA/KRLS News they are receiving extra food from the Food Bank of Iowa and generous donors in advance of Vermeer employees who were impacted financially by the damage from Thursday’s EF-3 rated storm. Zula says they still remain open in the morning and evening every Tuesday, but they are taking appointments for special food and supply pickups.
She says August is typically their busiest month of the year, and it may be more so due to the number of people suffering from the storm damage, so she asks the community for any additional donations they can provide.
“The Pella Community Food Shelf is founded on friends and neighbors helping each other–that’s what we’re all about,” Zula says. “So if that means you want to contribute to us, we sure appreciate it. We would love it if you would donate to our boxes that are around town, either located at The Well or Hy-Vee, and to the homegrowers, if you have extra produce, extra eggs, we would sure love to see them in our facility.”
Zula says while the Pella Food Shelf has enough supply on hand now and for the immediate future, she wants to ensure they can keep providing resources in the coming months.
