A long standing elm tree in the Pella Historical Village will need to come down.

According to Pella Historical Society, the heart of it is rotten, and it’s currently bolted to keep it from falling. Tree experts estimate that it’s between 230 and 250 years old, and it was here before the Louisiana Purchase, founding of Marion County or Pella, the Earp family arrived, and the first Tulip Time. It also survived the Dutch Elm Disease that killed most of the elm trees in the state. It is scheduled to come down Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9. The Village will be closed those days.
