Breast cancer is treatable when detected early, but many women don’t get checked on a regular basis; so the main goal of today’s KNIA/KRLS Save a Life radiothon is to urge those at risk to get tested, and avoid the risk.

Knoxville Hospital and Clinics is hosting the event from 4 to 6 p.m. in conjunction with the hospital’s Girls Night Out. Survivors of breast cancer will tell their stories, and urge women to get regular mammograms and seek treatment if needed.

Cindy Crozier from the hospital tells KNIA/KRLS News getting a mammogram is something which gets put off all too easily.

“We invite breast cancer survivors to come and speak and tell their story if they would like to, or just give advice or encourage other people to come out and get their mammograms done, because some people don’t think it’s that important to go yearly,” Crozier says.

Dr. Bob Leonard will host this week’s broadcast live from the hospital lobby on KNIA and KRLS; next week, the Save a Life Radiothon will be from Pella Regional Health Center on KRLS, on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
