The members of the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department put down their hoses and grabbed their spatulas on Saturday, continuing an annual event which helps them meet their needs for the coming year.

The annual Pancake Feed at their downtown Knoxville station brought dozens of friends and neighbors; the free will donations collected in a fire boot will help purchase new equipment to help upgrade their Jaws of Life extrication tool.

All their apparatus were on display, and Fire Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News they are also making sure their vehicles stay up to date by replacing some of the fleet.

“We have one more truck coming we just took over from the City of Harvey,” Thompson says. “So we have another grass truck coming, so we’ll be set up real good — we’ll have two grass trucks and a tanker and a pumper, and we’ll have another truck that’s like an apparatus truck.”

Also on display was their utility cart, which was purchased with the proceeds from last year’s breakfast.
