Phase one is complete for the PCM football team. They capped off a district title and undefeated regular season at 9-0 last week. While that is all fine and dandy, it’s only the first step in their quest to capture a program’s first state championship. That second phase gets underway Friday when the Mustangs welcome Kuemper-Catholic for the first round of the playoffs.
Trying to reach the dome has been a thorn in the Mustangs’ side in recent memory. In the past seven seasons PCM has made the postseason in each year but have only reached the quarterfinal round once in that timeframe. Head Coach Greg Bonnett tells KRLS Sports this team is different and has what it takes to get over the hump.
“I think they are a ‘see guy hit guy’ type of team. They don’t get in their own heads and think about how scenario plays out within a game. They go out on the field and produce while not worrying about anything else. That is different from any other team I have had.”
The chance to be one step closer to reaching the dome gets started at 7 p.m. Friday in Monroe.
