Members of the Pella City Council have raised concerns about pedestrians and bicyclists on city streets as the days get shorter.
Lt. Paul Haase with the Pella Police Department tells KRLS News all area residents should be mindful of earlier sunsets, whether they are operating a vehicle or using the street to walk or bike. Haase says it’s important for drivers to avoid distractions, and for those planning to use the streets to wear the proper reflective gear and light colored clothing during the evenings.
He encourages walkers and joggers to use sidewalks whenever possible, and be mindful of their surroundings. According to Pella City Code, residents have to walk on sidewalks where they are provided, and on roads where there are none, they should walk on the left side of the street.
