Central College students, staff, and faculty spent their Tuesdays lending helping hands throughout central Iowa during the annual service day.

Local projects included tulip planting at the Pella Historical Village, organizing art supplies in the Pella Community Center, sorting coats for Crossroads of Pella annual drive, landscaping at the Comfort House, yard work at Christian Opportunity Center, and meeting with residents at The Cottages, among several others in Pella and the region.

Freshmen Megan Rohr and Megan Reem, who were at Crossroads of Pella, tell KRLS News they enjoyed their time helping others in the community they now call home.

“I haven’t been able to do community service since I was in high school and I enjoy working with people, especially for something that goes towards people who need it,” Rohr says.

“It’s a really good opportunity to get to know the people of the town and also get to know the town, we’ve been to multiple places today and we’ve gotten to meet people in their working state,” Reem says. “They’re just so friendly here, and it’s a great way to feel more at home.”

Morgan Keisler works with Career and Professional Developmental Services at Central, and says the event has a great, positive impact to the area community.

“I just started at Central in August and I’m so impressed with the students and their commitment to helping the community and each other,” she says. “It’s a great place to work, and great place to be.”
