Pleasantville and Melcher-Dallas are among the Iowa cities getting a share of federal monies to help out with infrastructure improvements.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded a total of $4.5 million to 11 of the 12 applicant cities; the IEDA administers funds provided through a federal Community Development Block Grant, to the non-urbanized areas of the state.
Melcher-Dallas will get $500,000 for sanitary sewer improvements, to supplement over $991,000 provided by the Department of Natural Resources through a state rotating fund.
Pleasantville will be receiving $425,000 to go towards installation of a water main; they also have DNR funds totalling $406,000.
These grants are awarded based on the benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, financial need, and project impact…as well as readiness, and local commitment to the project.
