Several area farmers will receive aid from the US Department of Agriculture after retaliatory tariffs struck the soybean and hog industry.

The payments were authorized in August, after China announced tariffs on soybeans and pork coming from the US, with the federal government authorizing $12 billion in aid. Most payments range from the $300-$1400 range, with Palisades Pork, Inc. of Monroe receiving over $82,000 and S & A Farms of Pella receiving over $43,000–both of which are hog operations.
