Many people at Christmas time like to drive through their towns at night to look at the holiday lights and decorations on their friends and neighbors homes; and in Knoxville, some of those taking the trip will be picking out the best ones to honor as part of the local home decorating contest.
The Knoxville Federated Garden Club will be going through town on the weekend of December 15th and 16th, looking at all the displays and choosing the top three to receive cash prizes.
Sherry Luedtke is with the Federated Garden Club, which is sponsoring the second annual contest; she tells KNIA/KRLS News they have no particular look or theme they expect homes to use — they simply want homeowners to be as festive and creative as possible.
“We’re throwing it wide open, any decorations, any lighting that looks appealing,” says Luedtke. “And really, all of it does; around town, I’ve noticed there’s a lot of nice decorations this year.”
The club sponsors its Yard of the Month awards during the spring and summer months, and began this contest last year as a way of keeping active during winter and paying tribute to homes which have especially impressive decorations.
Anyone wishing to be considered, or who wants to nominate someone else for consideration, should call the Federated Garden Club at 842-2858, and make sure their decorations are fully lit on the evenings of December 15th and 16th.
