One person was found dead inside of a semi that veered off of Highway G-28 this morning.

At approximately 7:26 a.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an accident in the 1300 block of the county road, near Cordova Park. The caller reported a semi-truck and trailer had left the roadway and came to rest in the south ditch.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the vehicle registered to Duke Aerial, Inc. of Atlantic, IA resting in the ditch facing eastbound. The vehicle was operated by 48 year old Frederick William Brandt III from rural Lucas, IA. Emergency personnel were unable to get a pulse from Brandt and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

He was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if this was a medical-related incident. The case will remain open until results from the State Medical Examiner’s Office are released.

Pella Ambulance, Pella Rural Fire, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa State Patrol responded.
