The Knoxville School District is changing the time school starts at the high school.
School will now begin at 8:05 a.m. instead of 8 a.m., Tuesdays through Fridays. Monday will remain the same at 10 a.m. This year, as an attempt to get students more involved in the decision making process at the high school, a Student Advisory group was created. The group is made up of students from each grade and meets several times per month to propose ideas to improve KHS from a student perspective. One of the proposals that was made near the end of 1st semester was to change the school start time from 8:00 AM to 8:05 AM, Tuesday through Friday. The students found a way to push the school start time back by 5 minutes without altering the amount of instructional time used during class periods. A survey created by the Student Advisory group garnered over a 65% approval rate from students to make the change to the new school start time.
