Congressman Dave Loebsack sent out a letter Friday warning Iowa residents about the dangers with flu following 43 deaths associated with the virus.
Congressman Loebsack’s letter referred to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations for three steps to help prevent the spread of the flu virus. According to the CDC the three steps include taking preventative actions, such as washing your hands and avoiding contact with those who have the flu, getting a flu shot, as well as taking a flu antiviral drug if prescribed by a doctor. Nurse Judi Van Hulzen with Marion County Public Health tells KNIA/KRLS News an easy way to remind residents on how long they should wash their hands with soap and water is to sing the alphabet song once and the happy birthday song twice which equates to 20 seconds of washing their hands with warm water. According to Congressman Loebsack, reports continue to show, this is one of the more dangerous flu strains that we have seen in a while. He invites people to stay aware and take the necessary steps to keep them and their family healthy.
