While uncertainty looms with the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government and tax season, residents are still encouraged to prepare to file as early as they can.
Brett Nikkel with Van Mannen, Sietstra, Meyer, and Nikkel tells KRLS News a faster return doesn’t mean a faster refund this year, especially with the new tax code implemented for 2018, but he does say that helps keep information safe from potential identity thieves. Nikkel encourages everyone to gather all necessary receipts and financial documentation for any deductions they plan to itemize, and to keep safe any W2 forms coming back from employers. Nothing has been announced in regards to this year’s filing season by the IRS, although national reports indicate there will be no refunds given out if the government remains shutdown.
