Sen. Amy Sinclair is dismissing the notion of changing rules to eliminate the amount of notice the public is given about any subcommittee meetings in the State Capitol.

The 14th District Republican heads up the Education Committee, and she says existing rules are sufficient to ensure the public and all concerned parties receive proper notice about upcoming meetings.

She tells KNIA/KRLS News it’s standard procedure for all rules applying to main committees to apply equally to their subcommittees, and no changes have or could be made to alter that.

“The rules that we have that govern committees require a day’s notice, it requires public involvement, open to the public…it requires everything for committees,” Sen. Sinclair says.

“The fact that they were saying subcommittees needed these too, that’s wrong; we use Mason’s Manual which says that any rule that is applied to a committee applies to a subcommittee as well. So all of the nonsense that’s out there is just that — it’s nonsense.”

Sen. Sinclair says the entire Senate approved the rules put into place for this year’s General Assembly, and they are the same rules which have been in effect every year since she’s been there.
