A major snowstorm set to impact the northeast portions of the state may still have impacts locally.
According to the National Weather Service, a mix of freezing rain and sleet remains possible Sunday night into Monday morning for most of south central Iowa. Northeast areas of the state are expected to receive moderate to heavy snowfall, while right now the forecast is focusing on the potential for ice accumulation locally. Light snow remains a possibility with the system as well.
After another winter storm in the state, dangerous cold sets in with an arctic blast of air expected to last Tuesday through Thursday. Wind chills will drop to as low as 35 below zero locally, especially in the overnight and morning hours on those days. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in as little as 15 minutes in those conditions if proper winter gear is not worn for protection.
