The Central College basketball teams split with host Dubuque in a conference road doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS Saturday.
The fourth quarter has not been kind to the women’s squad in recent outings but the Dutch withstood a late University of Dubuque challenge for a 66-59 road victory. Forward Kendall Brown swatted away another five shots, giving her 62 blocks in 21 games, breaking the school season mark of 61 set by all-American Tracy Wilson in a 29-game NCAA Division III championship campaign in 1992-93. Brown also had her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
A desperation three-quarter court heave by Dutch guard Jaden Moody provoked a few gasps in the crowd as it rimmed out and Spartan’s dodged the Central College men’s basketball team 75-72. Central also had a more conventional potential-tying 3-point try on a nice play by guard Shimar Jones rattle in and out moments earlier, trailing 72-69.
