A strong Saturday at the Wartburg Select allowed Central College men’s track and field athlete Will Daniels to record the best heptathlon mark in NCAA Division III history.

Daniels set the new bar at 5,441 points, winning the Wartburg Select by over 400 points. As a team, Central was fifth of seven teams with 80 points. Daniels built up a solid lead after the first four events on Friday. A new indoor personal best of 14 feet, 5.25 inches in the pole vault highlighted his final three events Saturday. He won the National Championship in the event last spring.

En route to a third-place team finish, the distance runners on the Central College track and field team produced a large portion of the 110 points at the Wartburg Select on Saturday. Central’s distance crew had three athletes with top-eight finishes in the 1,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run. Rachel Peter, a PCM alumnus, had a runner-up effort in the 5,000 (20:47.28) and was third in the 1,000 (3:26.39).
