Three local wrestlers have reached the quarterfinal round at the state wrestling meet at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines after Thursday’s opening round.

Indianola’s Ryder Downey at 106lbs is in the quarterfinals after a 5-2 win by decision, as is 145lb grappler Nick Bonnano after a win by fall. Pleasantville’s Cael Lester is also just three matches away from a state title, after a win by technical fall 18-2. Indianola’s Brennan Meachem fell in his opening match but won his consolation round match by fall to stay alive, as did Pleasantville’s Cael Anthony, while the Trojans Matthew Kauffman dropped both of his matches Thursday to see his state meet appearance come to an end.
