This year’s snowfall has been so heavy that the City of Knoxville had a bit of trouble finding space to dump all the snow it has cleared away; but a new site has been found, which should last for the rest of the winter season.

The main location for city trucks to dump snow is on a stretch of Third Street between Auld Park and the dog park; City Manager Aaron Adams says because it doesn’t access any homes or businesses, they close it off and drop the snow there.

Normally that’s sufficient, but if needed the secondary site has been the parking lot at Youngs Park. Adams says that, too is filling up, so they’ve found a third location; just last week, the city obtained permission to use the lot next to the old laundry facilities on the Veterans Administration campus, right near Youngs Park.

He says this is the first time the city has ever had to find a third site for dumping its snow.
