Pella’s top-seeded boys basketball team ran all over Carlisle in the Class 3A Substate 6 Semifinals, demolishing the Wildcats 80-51 in a postseason game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch featured seven different players scoring in a 45 point first half, in which a 30 point second quarter had the contest fall into their hands in a flurry.
Pella tallied 22 assists as a team and 13 offensive rebounds, the kind of selfless basketball senior captain Ryan Gustafson says the team will need to continue if they want to keep advancing in the postseason.
“We’ve been working really hard with the practices we’ve had,” he says. “Against a good team, we showed the state what we can do and played really well as a team, and we’re looking forward to what comes next.”
Gustafson hit his first five three-point attempts to get to 17 points to go along with eight assists, Nick DeJong scored 11 points and nabbed 12 rebounds, John Oltman tacked on 16 points, and Logan Shetterly had seven dishes with his 9 point effort.
Pella improves to 17-5 and has a regular season rematch with Ballard Monday night for the chance to play at the state tournament. The Bombers knocked off Bondurant-Farrar last night 47-39 to advance.
