A Pella High School junior was among the top finishers at a statewide poetry contest. Elaine Schippers finished in second place at the Iowa Poetry Out Loud State Finals. This is the first time that a Pella High School student has finished in the top three, according to teacher Suzi Jones. Schippers says she enjoyed the opportunity not only to challenge herself by reading three different types of poems in the contest, but hearing from others and their takes on various works. Hear more from Schippers and one of the pieces she recited on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
