Patrons of the Hoosier Row Community Center, a former one-room schoolhouse in rural Indianola, are fundraising to give the building a much-needed new roof. The school was closed in 1958, was purchased by local residents and converted into a community center, and has had continuous upkeep since then by members. Judy McClymond with the community center tells KNIA News the schoolhouse is unique, full of history, and needs the community’s help.

“It’s a wonderful piece of Warren County history. It is the only country school still on the original location. The interior is full of original items, the desks, the globes, the maps, all of those things are original, and have been beautifully preserved for anyone to see. If the roof goes bad, that is going to damage a lot of history. So it’s very important that we get this roof repaired.
