Associate head softball coach Alicia O’Brien picked up career win number 800 on Sunday morning as Central College beat Gustavus (MN) 3-1. The Dutch then saw a furious rally fall short in an 8-6 loss to LaCrosse (WI). Both games were heard live on the KRLS3 stream at www.kniakrls.com from the Tucson Spring Invitational.
In the win over the Golden Gusties, Central’s Sadie Baugher drilled out a two-out two-run single to open the scoring in the second inning, and Daria Parchert’s squeeze bunt scored Sara Tallman an inning later. It was enough offense to back a sold pitching effort from Dannielle Riley, and Maria Fritz got the final five outs for a save.
The Dutch jumped on top of the Eagles in game two on a pair of first-inning RBI doubles by Shaye Witte and Kaitlyn Andresen, but LaCrosse scored eight unanswered to take control. Central plated a run in the sixth, and three more in the seventh, but the tying run was left on first base.
The Dutch are now 5-3 on the season, and after an off day today, they’ll be back in action for two games tomorrow against UT-Dallas and Macmurray, starting at 11am Iowa time. Trevor Castle will again call the action on the KRLS3 stream at www.kniakrls.com.
