After the first full week of floor debate in the Iowa House, several key bills have passed or continue to move along. District 79 Representative Dustin Hite says of the bills that have passed, over 90 percent are bipartisan in nature, including two he brought to the floor of the house last week: Senate Files 113 and 220.
“[Senate File 113] holds repeat drunk drivers accountable and keeps them off the roads to make our highways safer. This bill clarifies that a person convicted with three or more OWIs can be charged as a habitual offender and face stiffer penalties. Drunk driving is not only irresponsible, but it puts those who wish to travel safely on our roads and highways at risk.”
“Another bill I was able to run on the House Floor also received bipartisan support. This was Senate File 220. Senate File 220 is a minor fix to last session’s historic tax reform bill regarding Section 179 expensing for small businesses and farmers. It passed on a bipartisan vote of 87-7.”
