Knoxville’s city dog park will be undergoing some improvements over the next few months, in an effort to make it look less like a converted ball diamond.

The old field at Auld Park still bears the trappings of a ballpark, and Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers tells KNIA/KRLS News his department will be working this spring and summer to upgrade the park and make it more pet-friendly.

“The big plan here, the big picture is to take down the poles, take down the dugouts, take down the fencing and actually have a rectangle fence that’s meant for the dog park there. And then hopefully have a section that we can separate large dogs from small dogs,” Nemmers says.

Another major improvement will involve reseeding of the old infield, to blend in with the grass located in the former outfield. Nemmers says this area will be roped off while the grass takes root; but it will be tricky trying to keep dogs out until it’s ready.
